The Missing Link

         She looked at her finger and cried loudly, “Dear heart, didn’t you see my ring?”

“Your ring? Which one.” Her husband shouted back.

“How many rings did you give me? The engagement one.“

“Did you look inside your drawer?”

“I did but It was not there.”

“I have lost mine too.” Her husband shouted.

His wife came to his husband’s room with her concern. “Have you looked inside your pocket?”

She looked at her husband's pockets then looked to his finger and said. “Are you kidding me? It is there, to your finger.”

“Sweet, I didn’t mean my engagement ring.” The man laughed.

“I see. What did you mean?”

“I meant my link, not my ring.”

“I think you are not Ok.” She looked at her husband's face and sat on his knee and put her hands on his neck and kissed him on his lips.

“Your link is beside you,” She said

His husband laughed and kissed her too.

“Of course it is but I’m sure your engagement ring was not in my mouth?”

“No. it wasn’t. It is somewhere in the house.” She got up again.

“Do you know why people are restless?” His husband asked unexpectedly.

“Are you Ok James?” She asked him with anxiety.

“I don’t know. Sometimes I am not. As a psychologist, can you tell me why people sometimes are restless? They look like they have lost something but they don’t know what is it?” The husband didn’t wait for her answer, he went to the sitting room and his wife followed him.

“Millions, millions of people leave their home in the morning and come back again at night. They do the same every day. Can you tell me why they do that? Why do they always repeat their habits again and again? What are they looking for? Aren’t they mad?” The husband repeated his question again.

“Don’t say stupid words in the begining at the day please. Of course they have to go to work and come back home because they cannot sleep at their work.” His wife said and went into the kitchen. 

“You saw the unseen with your closed eyes.” The man answered. “I know that.”

After a while his wife came back with a glass of water and gave it to her husband. “Drink it. It will calm you down. “Because people need connection with their relations.” She said.

“Do you think so?” The husband got the glass of water.

“I cannot answer you know. But it is.” His wife said.

“So. They are looking for their link.”

“What are they looking for?” 

“They look for their link.” Her husband said.

“What do you want to say?”

“I am saying you are right. I need to see my parents. They are my link.”

“Oh, my baby. You missed them. You are unhappy because you want to meet them.” The wife said as she looked at him.

“Isn’t it funny?” The husband asked.

“What funny?”

“Some people don’t know the value of their link.?”

“I will think about that. Now I am thinking on my ring. Soon, we must go to work. Please make two cups of coffee since I am preparing myself.” His wife said and went to the bathroom.

They ate their breakfast and drank a cup of coffee hastily then left the house.

In the afternoon, when the wife came back his husband and their 2 kids were  at home, “I found my ring.” She cried happily.

“You are lucky. Was it at your office?” The husband asked.

“No. It wasn’t. It was at my parent's home. We will pick it up on the weekend. Last time I had forgotten in their home”

“Call them, they come to us. I will call my mom and dad to be here too. I need to be with them.” His husband said.

“Good idea. It will be great. I’ll do that. We enjoy it all together. Our parents and our children and us.” The wife said.

“Yes. I think so. Therefore, you will have your ring and I will have my link.”

“That’s true.” The wife said.

“The children enjoy it with their grand moms and dads too. It's been a long time since we were not all together.” The husband said.

“I wish your father would take his violin with him. I like it.”

“Oh my mother, oh my father, you are my link …” The husband sang.

“Oh my mother, I like you so much.”

“Oh my father, I like you too.”

“You are my link.”

“I’m a shadow of you two.” The wife sang.

“Shadow, shadow, shadow.”

“You are my soul.”

“You are my genie. In my body.”

“Body, body, body.”

“I like your dancing.” The husband said.

“ I am hungry.” The wife laughed.

“I am hungry too. We must sleep and repeat our habits tomorrow.”

“Don’t cry my baby, your milk will be ready soon.” The wife went to the kitchen.

The man took his mobile and came to the kitchen too “Good afternoon mom, how are you mom?”

“I’m very well my dear.” His mother answered.

“I and Rose are interested to see you and dad on the weekend. Ask dad to take his violin with him, please. Anet and Adam missed you too.”

“I do my dear. See you, my dear. Missed you.” The mother said.

“By the way, Rose’s parents will be here too.”

“Happy to hear that. It will be a very interesting day.” the mother said.

The man ended his talking and began helping his wife in the kitchen.

“Did you find your missed link?” His wife asked.

“Yes. Of course with your assistance.” The man answered.

“The children rushed to the kitchen happily.”

“Is Grandma and Grandpa coming here? They asked.
